622 civil service classes -EXCISE AND CUSTOMS See page 516 for arrangements that are common to all Classei in Division Competitions have been suspended for some time but are now resumed They will probably be held twice year The Course of preparation for each Examination is divided into two periods of 10 weeks each The general Classes meet from 30 to 45 but it generally advisable to attend at 50 as there are short Special Classes at this hour free to all Students Fees -One evening per week One period of 10 weeks £1 Is two periods of 10 weeks £2 8s Two evenings per week One period of 10 weeks £2 5s two periods of 10 weeks £4 The Class is divided for Arithmetic only into First and Second Section Upon joining Students are examined and laced in the Section which will give them the help they need If placed in the Second they will be moved to the First immediately they are found qualified Those who join for one evening week will attend on Wednesdays The instruction given on this evening con- stitutes complete course of preparation Unless their time for preparation is very limited Candidates are however re- commended to attend on Mondays as well as Wednesdays at least until they have reached an advanced stage of prepa- ration χ י י Ί Subjects of Examination for Excise -Obligatory Hand- writing highest marks attainable 400 Orthography 400 Arithmetic to Vulgar and Decimal Fractions including Tots 400 English Composition 00 Optional Higher Arith- metic and Mensuration 400 Geography 400 Subjects of Examination for Customs -All Obligatory Handwriting Orthography Arithmetic to rulgar and Decimal Fractions and Mensuration Composition Precis Geography
