xl report The Council have much satisfaction in observing that this Report exhibits very considerable and general advance on the numbers reported last year Several of the Departments of the College show large increase and in other Depart- ments the general average is maintained Α The Theological Department maintains its position Important advances are being made under the influence of periodical Conferences of Examining Chaplains and Theo- logical Professors in the training of Candidates for Holy Orders King's College has had the privilege of taking considerable part in the work of these Conferences and there is every reason to be grateful for the general appre- ciation of the value of the training given in this Depart- ment distinguished Associate of the Department Arch- deacon Blunt has just been consecrated Suffragan Bishop of the Diocese of York and the closer connection of the Department with the Seo of the official Chairman of the Council which will thus be promoted is matter for much satisfaction -The General Literature Department shows large ineiease which is due to the recognition of the College by the Education Department as one of the Day Training Col leges for Queers scholars who are being prepared as Cer- titicated Masters in the National Schools The College was allowed to receive 25 such Students last year and will be permitted to receive 25 more this year so that the total number of such Students will for the future be 50 These Students have been found very earnest and capable in their work and have fallen in very satisfactorily with the general course of the College Although they have to be received at reduced fee in consideration partly of the annual grant now made to the College by the Government and entail the additional expense of Normal Master fo their special subjects they will in the end bring some pecuniary return to the College and it will be welcome to the friends of the College that it should take part in the important work of
