The collection includes copies of the Soviet military theory journal Voennaia Mysl', an authoritative journal published with the authority of the Soviet General Staff. Established in 1937, the journal was classified 'For Generals, Admirals, and Officers Only' from 1947-1989.

The collection contains microfiched copies of issues of Voennaia Mysl', the Soviet military theory journal for armed forces personnel and military strategists. Included in the collection are monthly issues and special issues, 1985-1990. Special issues were published only occasionally and were considered especially authoritative. Often their classification was higher than standard issues. The 1985 special issue was dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Germany in World War Two, and includes essays by Soviet Marshal Georgi Konstantinovich Zhukov and Defence Minister Sergei L Sokolov.
