St Thomas's Football teamSt Thomas's Football teamThe rules of Association Football (soccer) were codified at the meeting of clubs in 1863 which established the Football Association but rugby remained the preferred game at King's College and Guy's and St Thomas's Hospitals until the formation of soccer clubs in the 1880s and 90s.

King's now hosts several enthusiastic men and women's teams that play in the British University and London University leagues.

Other sports that began to be played at King's in the late 19th century notably included cricket and boxing.

Tennis, badminton, hockey, swimming, cycling, cross country running, mountain climbing and golf all became especially popular during the 1920s and 30s. More recently these have been joined by various martial arts, diving, volleyball and basketball, to name a few.
