In 1861 Ellen was living in St. John Street, Bridgwater, with her parents, three brothers and one sister. Her mother died young and in 1871 her father was lodging in Bedminster, and Ellen, age 24, was in Bridgwater with her two brothers, Walter age 18, Albert age 12 and sister Martha age ten, before coming to London to train as a nurse at University College Hospital. Ellen's youngest sister, Martha, also trained as a nurse at U.C.H. and would have been there at the same time as Ellen. By 1911 Ellen had retired and was living at 31 Mosebury Avenue, Bridgwater, with her 78 year old aunt, Eliza England, who was also a retired Nurse.
