Second daughter of a family of five children of Thomas Lawrence, Domestic Servant Gardener, and his wife, Ann, nee Glass. Mira's mother died when Mira was twelve, at the end of 1863, when her youngest daughter Elizabeth was born. In 1881 Mira, was a needlewoman, living with her father and brother Noah at Wharf Terrace, Wantage; in 1911 she was a nurse at 37 Broad Street, Oxford, the home of Herbert Edward Counsell, surgeon.
